About the MWRD
• The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) is a special district created by the state of Illinois to oversee water treatment and quality in the Chicagoland area.
• Entrusted with protect the quality of Lake Michigan and improve the quality of the waterways in the District.
• Managing storm water in all of Cook County and protecting District homes and businesses from flooding.
• Collecting wastewater for treatment in the District’s seven water reclamation plants.
• Treating secondary water and transporting water back to local waterways.
